As of this week, Origami Angel is my
new addiction. In the short time since I Downloaded Somewhere City its
quickly become one of my favorite albums. It’s like a modern post-punk take on
Taking Back Sundays Tell All Your Friends.
The lyrics
are open and relate-able (not to mention catchy), while the instrumentals are upbeat
and are sure to make you move your feet.
What are my favorite things about
Origami Angel?
That’s easy, for one, these songs are
just plain awesome. Probably my personal favorite aspect, though, is the confessional
and relate-able styled lyrics. Then of course, you have their constant references
to things like Pokémon and Danny Phantom, not to mention their Pokémon styled
album art for Gen 3, along with a clever rating saying its rated “E for
Emo”(I really love it when bands aren’t afraid to call themselves emo, maybe that’s
just me).
And damn, you just have to love these clever and punny song
titles. Thanks! I hate It, Origami Bagel, Welcome to…(for the intro
track of Somewhere City), Doctor Whomst, and for the title track on
Somewhere City… The Title Track. Ok, so naming the title track “title
track” probably isn’t that clever, but I still love it.
I don’t know… I guess It’s the small
things that I love with albums. Small things don’t make a shit album good, but
they do have a real chance at making a good album even better. Just things like
complete ID3 tags and embedded lyrics (maybe some hidden album art on specific tracks
*wink wink*) especially since embedded lyrics are such a rarity… To be completely
honest, there’s nothing not to love here, especially with their latest album Somewhere
City.
Before we go, it should be noted
that Origami Angel is one of the fastest growing underground bands today, and with
how fast their growing, and the quality of their music, I heavily suspect that
it wont be long before Origami Angel is sharing the stage with names like Pierce
the Veil, Sleeping With Sirens, Weezer, or Taking Back Sunday.
