An Interview with Joe Walker of Beneath the Break

Joe walker the lead singer of Beneath the Break and Burn Your Bridges talks about Beneath the Break, why they broke up, and what releases they still have in store for us.

ok so, as I understand it the Beneath the Break has broken up, is that correct?
Yes, we were recently gonna start Jammin’ and recording again but our guitar player Bill Anderson recently passed away. Me and him have one song we were working on before it happened that will be dropped by this summer in his name. It's some brutal as shit too lol
Oh, I’m sorry to hear that, but I’m definitely looking forward to that track. Why did the band break up?
I was getting ready to have my first-born son and everybody's job definitely Interfered. At the time everyone was pretty much in their late twenties’ early thirties lol. We just didn't want to give up playing music until we were pretty much forced
Are any of you working with other bands now?
Our guitar player Jay Ramirez plays in a punk band out of Atlantic city called No Comply I also do Vocals for another band called Burn Your Bridges which will have some songs and info out very shortly.
That’s Awesome, and how did you guys meet?
Most of us in high school and in the local music scene.
Is there a big music scene there?
The music scene in the early 2000 around the South Jersey Atlantic city area was phenomenal so many good local bands and awesome people. Nowadays, you don't even see kids playing instruments anymore. Everybody has their cellphones in front of their faces and their heads up their asses. It's very sad, but the bands that are playing locally for the most part are pretty amazing.

Man, that sucks. You guys were pretty big for a bit though, what do you attribute that to?
We’re just a bunch of friends that liked heavy metal music and having fun. Whatever it was we did worked for us. I definitely miss getting on stage and having fun with my boys.
That’s awesome. Speaking if having fun, what are some of your craziest memories related to the band?
I can't speak for everyone else, but my favorite moment was when we played in Philadelphia with the Browning Luna shore and lifeless. We actually played a suicide silence cover and I witnessed  some girl pretty much kicked this dudes face in and homie just walked away all bloody like nothing happened lol. I thought that was pretty crazy lmao
The album cover of the bands ep, available for free download and streaming below.
So what went into the name? Does it have a special meaning? Maybe a life experience or a philosophy?
Lol well I can take for responsibility for that one. I have a crazy obsession with crocodiles and alligators and I always thought it was creepy as hell how they lurk beneath the break of the water. So that's pretty much where I got Beneath The Break lol. A crazy obsession the crocodiles and alligators, that would explain the album art as well.
I actually have a crocodile tattoo on my arm, smoking a blunt eating a microphone.
That’s wicked! And did you guys have any sort of mission going into the band? Or any important topics that you covered lyrically?
Like I said we were all in band previously and this was pretty much our last go at playing music.  Lyrically if I was trying to get anything out there it was for people to take depression and addiction a little more serious. I'm sure with all that's going on nowadays It's quite obvious why.
What were the names of the previous bands?
I was in a few bands. The first band was Divided We Fall, followed by By All Means. For those two bands I played bass, I started doing for vocals in a band called Scattered Through the Woods, which was doing very good at its time, then Burn Your Bridges followed by Beneath the Break. J was in a band called Blessed with A Curse and now No Comply with Our bass player, Casey, who was also in a band with me called Burn Your Bridges. I know I'm missing some and I am sorry, too much pot smoke lol
lmao that’s really awesome. I’ll go check those bands out., And is there anything u want readers to know?
Just to keep an ear out for this track we will be dropping in honor of kill bill AKA bill Anderson. And for people to keep their heads up and help one another, depression is real, and we can all help each other through it.
