Interview with Dave Gannon of Gannon

Can you start by stating your name and roll in the band?

Dave Gannon- songwriter, producer, vocalist

Alright, and can you tell me what separates Gannon from other bands?

Gannon is a collaborative project. It started with me writing instrumentals and featuring whoever in the local scene wanted to do a feature on the song.

And how did you guys meet?

The live members (Steve Hinckley, Andrew Lima, Dan Woitasek, Dan Carroll) are all friends of mine. They’ve done features in Gannon songs and/or play in Patient 0 with me.

And what’s one inside joke within the band

Think of all the worst possible sound bites there are on the internet. Odds are we have them playing on the click tracks we listen to live. The crowd might not understand why we are randomly laughing/smiling during our sets, but that’s usually why.

What is the one of the craziest things you've seen while on stage

The Meatlocker is the craziest venue I’ve ever seen. I’d say just being inside that place was an experience.

How's the music scene in your area? (RI/MA)

The scene in RI is amazing right now. It’s like a giant family.

And what’s one thing you love, and one thing you hate, about being in a band

I love the techy stuff that happens in the background during shows (in-ear mixes, MIDI automated guitar fx changes, etc) I love setting that stuff up

I hate feeling like I have to maintain a presence on social media

How about one thing you love, and one thing you hate, about playing shows?

I love Performing

I hate Travel, coordination, showflow… essentially everything that leads up to when we’re playing

And while we’re on the topic of performing, what are your favorite songs to play

Wasteland, Plague, Corrode, Made to Rust

And what goes into the song writing process for you?

We don’t have a fixed writing process. It usually starts with me or Dan C writing guitar and me adding drums before handing the song off to a friend to write their vocal feature

If you could go back 10 years and tell yourself one thing, what would it be?

Don’t go to school for audio. Everything you need to know is on the internet.

If you could just hit the delete button on one thing in the world, what would It be?

People that abuse animals for fun/sport.

On a more serious note, what do you say to those suffering from anxiety or depression?

Your friends are there for you. Music is always there for you.

What advise do you have for someone who's being bullied

Don’t take people’s shit. Bark back even if it feels out of character. Once a bully realizes you’re gonna stand up for yourself they’ll back off.

What would you say to someone who's recovering from a trauma of some sort?

I guess it would depend on the situation

What advise would you give to someone who’s looking at trying to join their first band?

Don’t approach a band asking them for something. Instead, go to them offering some value you can contribute.

And what bands would you say have inspired you the most?

Slipknot, Linkin Park, Underoath

What shows do you have planned

3/13 Fete, Providence RI

4/17 The Office, Whitman MA

4/18 Monopole Bar, Plattsburgh NY

4/19 Altone Music Hall, Jewett City CT

4/21 Alchemy, Providence RI
